bullet_triangle_red.gif (472 bytes)Privacy Liner/Curtains

Woven  curtains consist of wood/bamboo strands interwoven in cotton yarn. Because of its construction these Light-filtering weaves cannot 100% eliminate all light entering your living space. (Keyword here is light filtering not elimination!!)

In general, woven curtains will reduce light entering the room by 50-80% in a fully drawn down position, depending on the style of curtain. (0% in a fully drawn up position!!)

Bits of our experience: One of the reasons we chose these curtains for our own was for its light filtering qualities. After some experience with our last home (wood blinds), we quickly realized that we rarely closed most of the blinds in our homes except of the rooms that required privacy (bedrooms etc...). In fact we rarely even raised the curtains to increase the lighting in fear of sun damage to the carpeting and furniture!! .......LIGHT FILTERING!!

Woven curtains will not allow line of sight thru the curtains from the light source side. (That was too scientific??). In simpler terms, these curtains act like a one way mirror and the mirror portion is always facing the light. I.e. during the daytime, you will not be able to see thru the curtains from outside into your home but you will be able to see thru the curtains from the inside. (No Stripteases, the opposite works at night!!)

For private areas in your home, we recommend installing a liner, which is permanently attached to the curtain. The liner option is FREE! for the blinds from Thailand. You may choose from the large number of shades and colors. (We recommend a Sheer fabric, to allow most of the light thru).

VERY IMPORTANT (For Thailand Collection ONLY!!!):
Please note: To have a liner installed you must also have the cloth edging.
Rollup style customers: when using privacy liner and the blind is rolled-up, you will only see the liner not the blind, the blind rolls up from the inside and the liner material is visible.

new10.gif (2572 bytes)    The standalone privacy rollershades are now available!  These privacy rollershades are independent for the blinds themselves and can be fabricated with any of the colors and shades available. (This privacy option is used by a large number of our hotel customers to allow for maximum flexibility.) Since these are independent shades, they can range from 40% to 80% the price of the blinds. Please contact us for exact pricing.

New11.gif (1000 bytes)Blind's Pictures from Our Home (it shows loads of pictures explaining line of sight and privacy liners)

And Yet ANOTHER option! Bamboo blinds are being mounted on the inside of the window frame and a normal lace curtain is mounted on the outside of the window. This option allows the best of both worlds, allows the blinds to filter light with the complete privacy of curtains when needed.

bullet_triangle_red.gif (472 bytes)Pull Cords and Cleats

Cord Cleat T.jpg (2666 bytes)Our Pull Cords are decoratively attired to match our curtains. If you have small children in your home, we recommend cord cleats to tie off the pull cords. This option is FREE!.  (Our two year old loves swinging on the pull cords, aspirations of becoming the 2nd Tarzan, something about the tassel......:)

bullet_triangle_red.gif (472 bytes)Window Molding

A window molding must be considered when using an outside mount. If the molding is flat and at least 2-3" thick, your blinds may be mounted on the molding. (Curved and shaped molding is not suitable).

If you have an irregular shaped molding, to install an outside mount blind, you require a spacer bar to be screwed to the wall above the window molding (Please inform us of this when ordering, its FREE!, Thailand, S.Africa blinds only). This spacer bar will be screwed above the top window molding (flush with the molding), thus providing a flat base to screw the blind itself. See Measuring instructions.

bullet_triangle_red.gif (472 bytes)Extra Wide Blinds

Now everybody wants one large window blind vs three small ones. I sympathize, but for every benefit there is always a clunker..... Over the years we have learnt not to make blinds large then 96". (we have built some up to 162", six pull cords, oversized mechanism, beefed up header bars, built like a tank BUT it requires an oversized person to pull up this blind and cost twice as much than a normal blind!). The reason for not building bigger blinds:

  • Larger blinds tend to sag due to the weight of the matchsticks. This causes severe strain on the hardware (pull cords, pulley, locks etc....), that also cause the matchstick to break prematurely.
  • Bamboo plants greater than 96" are difficult to find and therefore usually at a premium.
  • The longer the matchstick the more likely flaws will occur naturally and therefore the more likely for the matchstick to break prematurely.
  • We can't ship extra long blinds thru normal shipping channels like UPS or Fedex. So additional cost will be incurred. ($75-100)
Additional cost, and the likelyhood for earlier failure due to the large size. Additional shipping ground freight charges is also incurred. (Total additional cost up to $100.00)

For Patio Doors
Patio doors look better with two separate blinds. A single blind tend to look like a large mat.
Patio doors with two separate blinds are more functional. One blind can be opened for entry and exit while the other can be closed. Allowing the blind to be displayed at all times.

We have learnt over the years that our lifetime warranty is not effective when blinds are built to a larger size than 96" in width. We would like your blinds to be dependable and long lasting and therefore strongly recommend that you break the width into smaller sizes and use a multi headrail system if necessary.

bullet_triangle_red.gif (472 bytes)Outside Installations

Complicated subject but we have a solution, these blinds are used in screened porch's, verandah's and Gazebo's. These blinds styles are designed to be installed outside your home, ie exposed to the environment wind, rain, snow etc... Please see Outside Installations for more details.

Shipment Size and Delivery Times

If you are moving into a new home, there is a small difference in cost of purchasing all the curtains at the same time Vs purchasing them in small quantities. Shipping costs are higher in smaller quantities due to international air freight limitations.

Since neither we nor our customers benefit from high shipping costs (and the fact that we are donating money to UPS and Fedex!), we regularly combine many small orders to make one consolidated shipment, to further reduce shipping costs to our  customers. Consolidated shipment occur every ~4-6 weeks, depending on which country the blind is made.

As of 12/20/00, Delivery schedule from order placement. Additional cost for express delivery is in the right-most column.

Country Normal Express Add Cost
Thailand  4 weeks 2 weeks $75
South Africa  6 weeks 3 weeks $120
India  6 weeks 4 weeks $90
China/Taiwan - Prestige  4 weeks 2 week $45
China/Taiwan - M&B  4 weeks 2 weeks $45
Mexico - FUA  4 weeks 2 weeks $55
Prefabricated Blinds  4 weeks 3 weeks $45

Please note:
March - August are the peak periods for blinds. Delays are possible thruout this period. Backorders are possible at random times. We will attempt to Inform you as soon as possible on backorder status.

We have made an intentional decision not to deliver more than 30 homes worth of curtains a month. We have learnt from experience that handling too many orders has/will affect our commitment to manufacturing quality and customer support.
