 Measurement - Outside Mount

(a) Measure the windows
dimensions and record on the room log. Measure the exact width to the nearest eighth of an inch (1/8"). Don't be surprised if your window is not perfectly square. Most are not. Measure each window separately, even if they look the same!
(b) Decide where you plan to install the blinds. NO Window molding Outside mounting requires a minimum of 1 1/2" overlap over the actual window opening, this is to minimize the light gap and prevent the blinds from falling into the window opening itself. Therefore, if the window opening is (example) 48 3/8"W by 72 1/8"H, add 1 1/2" to all the sides. The new measurement will now be 51 3/8"W by 75 1/8"H. (I.e. measure the exact opening of your window glass frame and add 3" to the width and height.)
With Window molding
Mounting the blinds ON the molding
Mounting the blinds ABOVE the molding Usually this option is chosen when the molding is not to be seen. If you plan to mount the blinds above the molding, (i.e. completely covering the molding) then measure the total width and height of the window including the molding. Add at least one 2" to the height of the blind, the additional height is to allow for installation of the brackets above the molding.
Also measure the thickness of the molding against the wall face. (We will send you the necessary spacer blocks.)
(c) Measuring Width
(D) Height measurement
For height, again measure in the left, middle and right of the window. Use the longest measurement. (example: 34 1/2"-left, 34 3/8"-middle and 34 5/8"-right, choose size 34 5/8 for the longest window size.)
(f) Control Location Choose the location for the tilt and raise controls cords, this is either on the left or right side of each blind. (Tip1) : On your notes clearly indicate which measurement is the width and which is the height. It is very common to transpose measurements. Try to always measure the width first, then height. (this is the most common error we have encountered) (Tip2) : We recommend a 2nd person retaking the measurement to verify the dimensions of each windows. (When you specify an outside mount, no deductions will be made, the blinds will be made to your exact specifications)

Always measure with a
If you plan
to mount the blinds on the molding, (there are some cases where you would like part of your molding to
show outside your blinds) you must have at least 1 3/4" of flat area, (no waves or shapes) to mount
the blinds. Again, measure the exact width and height of the window including the
flat area where you plan to mount the blinds.
If the
window opening is (example) 48 3/8"W by 72 1/8"H, and the flat area is 2"
on the inside of the molding then,the new measurement will now be 52 3/8"W by 76
1/8"H. 
If the
window opening including the molding is (example) 48 3/8"W by 72 1/8"H, then the new measurement will now be 48 3/8"W by 74 1/8"H.
