bullet_triangle_red.gif (472 bytes)Step 1 : Understanding Your bamboo blind and its construction

wpe1A0.jpg (2216 bytes)  Please Click on this link to obtain some detailed explanation on the components of your bamboo blinds. Much of the installation instructions below are based on drawings/images described in the link above, we strongly recommend reading that section first. Information provided will also help in troubleshooting problems and care/maintenance of your bamboo blinds.

Installation for outside mounting Blinds Roman and Rollup

Installation will take approximately 20-30 minutes by one person. A second person might be required when the curtain is to be lifted in place. (The following example is a blind installation of Songkhla Yarn, roman style, outside mounting. The same instruction applies for inside mounting with some small variations..... see end of webpage)

bullet_triangle_red.gif (472 bytes)Step 2

Your blinds will arrive in plastic shrink wrapping. Please remove the shrink wrapping. (The ends of the blinds are bubbled wrapped, carefully cut the wrapping with scissors.)

Inside the shrink wrapping is a plastic pouch with the screws and plugs, these are required to install the blinds.

Verify with blind size with labeling  and match to the particular window.

bullet_triangle_red.gif (472 bytes)Step 3

You need some floorspace to unfold the blind to full length

Unroll the woven blinds to full length on the floor. The blinds are generally woven very tightly for shipping, you may need to loosen the locking pulley (under the valance), before the blind unroll completely. (To do this place a small screwdriver in the locking spindle as shown in the middle picture. This will lock open the blinds, you may remove the screwdriver when the blinds is completely unfold.)

bullet_triangle_red.gif (472 bytes)Step 4

Measure the width and height of the blinds to confirm the sizing.  Measure Height = from header bar to bottom, width = width

Measure window dimensions

Measure the distances of the predrilled holes on the top header rail from the left edge. For outside mounting: predrilled holes facing you, for inside mounting: predrilled holes are on the bottom side of the header bar.

Record on paper all the above measurements.

bullet_triangle_red.gif (472 bytes)Step 5

Mark with pencil on the wall above the window, the location of the pre-measured drill holes. (Your blinds should have some overlap, split that evenly on both side of the window frame.

Place the hole locations on the wooden stud directly located above the window frame ~1-2 inches. (most windows have wooden framing around the window, behind the sheetrock to anchor the window frame.) If there is no wooden stud, use the masonry plug provided to anchor the screws to brick or mortar. (Finding the wooden stud framing is crucial to a proper installation, the stability of the blinds depends on proper mounting.)

Punch the marked location with a hole punch or small screwdriver.

ATTN: Customers with window molding

With your blinds are several pieces of base header bars. (they look like the header bar on your blinds). These bars are screwed to the top of your window above your molding. When installed, they will provide a mounting base for the blinds that is flush with the window molding. The base header bars will also have predrilled holes and must be mounted prior to mounting the blinds. The same rules as above applies for mounting the base header bar.

bullet_triangle_red.gif (472 bytes)Step 6

Predrill screws F.jpg (8283 bytes)Predrilled the screws thru the holes in the header bar. (with the blinds on the floor) The screws must extend about 1" on the other side of the bar. (The screws will drill thru the bamboo mat to extend on the other side. Pick up the header bar slightly when the screw is extended, Don't screw into the carpet !!)

bullet_triangle_red.gif (472 bytes)Step 7

Pick up the blinds unfold and install the blinds in the prepunched holes in the wall. (The predrilled screws in the header bar should make it easier to locate the prepunched holes in the wall). You will need your ladder and a extra hand for this step.

BEFORE screwing the blinds in, take a step back (while your partner is holding the blinds of course) and view the blinds. Make sure that the blinds are split evenly on the window, width and height.

Screw in the wood screws with a cordless driver. Make sure that the screws is anchored on the wood frame. (the difference in torque will indicate if you have hit wood). If you have not hit wood, remove the blinds, find the wooden stud and reinstall. Do not install the blinds with only drywall holding the blinds. (you will have the blinds on your lap sooner than you think!!)

bullet_triangle_red.gif (472 bytes)Step 8

Open and close the blinds. Check for smooth movement.

Important: to lock/unlock the blind

Raise (open) the blind to any position. Angle the cord to about 60 degrees to your right, this will activate the locking mechanism and hold the blind in that position. To unlock, angle the pull cord ~60 degrees to the left and this will free the locking mechanism.

Installation for inside mounting Blinds Roman and Rollup

Perform Step 1 -3 as shown above.

Step 6

Predrill the screws thru the holes in the header bar. (with the blinds on the floor, use the drillholes on the underside of the header bar) The screws must extend about 1" on the other (top) side of the bar.    The screws will drill thru the bamboo mat to extend on the other side.

Perform Step 7 and 8 as shown above
